Miss Universe 2024 shake-up: More semifinalists, extra runners-up, and a fan vote decides one spot

The Miss Universe Organization has unveiled a revamped competition format for its 73rd pageant, scheduled for November 16, 2024, at Arena CDMX in Mexico City. This year’s event promises to be more inclusive, with notable changes aimed at offering a broader platform for contestants worldwide.

More Semifinalists and Fan-Involved Selection

One of the biggest changes is the increase in semifinalists. Approximately 127 contestants will compete this year, and the field will be narrowed down to 30 semifinalists—up from the previous 20. To engage fans worldwide, one of these 30 spots will be reserved for a contestant chosen through a fan vote. This added spot directly influences audiences in determining who advances in the competition, increasing excitement and fan engagement.

Following the initial cut, the top 30 semifinalists will participate in the swimsuit segment, showcasing their confidence and poise. This phase will then reduce the number of contestants for the next rounds.

Intense Final Rounds to Determine Miss Universe 2024

After the swimsuit competition, the field will narrow to 12 contestants, who will advance to the evening gown segment, showcasing elegance and style. From there, only the top 5 finalists will proceed to the highly anticipated question-and-answer round, where their articulation and poise under pressure will be assessed.

In another change, the final results will announce four runners-up, an increase from the previous two. Additionally, the pageant will crown four “continental queens” from different regions, adding a new layer of recognition for contestants across the globe.

This updated format highlights Miss Universe’s commitment to inclusivity and representation, providing more opportunities for contestants to shine on the world stage. With these fresh changes, Miss Universe 2024 is set to bring a dynamic, engaging experience for contestants and fans alike.
